What I do

I work as a Freediving Instructor Trainer, which means I teach freedivers and also train the people who go on to teach them. As a Functional Breath Coach and yoga teacher, I work on the breathing side of the same problem — how people breathe before a hold, how they stay relaxed during one, and how they recover afterwards.

On the BreathHold course I demonstrate the breathing, preparation, and recovery exercises directly. In the written guides and on the blog I try to explain the reasoning rather than just the protocol.

How I write about training

Most breath-hold advice online is confidently wrong. I try to be clear about which parts of what I publish are evidence and which parts are experience. A vinegar ear rinse stopping my infections and my instructors' infections over nine years is experience — it is not a trial, and I say so on the page. When I have taught something for years and the research turns out not to support it, I write the correction rather than quietly deleting the claim.

The rules I hold myself to are written down in the editorial and evidence methodology. If you find something wrong on this site, tell me and I will fix it and date the change.

What I will not tell you

I am not a doctor, and nothing published here replaces medical advice or an individual clinical assessment. Written guides also do not replace certified, in-water freediving instruction — if you want to train in water, find a freediving school and learn rescue skills with an instructor present.

Practise alone only on dry land. Never hyperventilate to extend a hold. In water, always use a trained buddy who understands freediving rescue. The safety guide covers the rest.
